Applying Expertise in Airtight Products
[ Foldable PCR Testing Booth ]
Jointly developed by Takahashi Industry and Izumi
Takahashi Industry, a company based in Kanazawa-cho, Hitachi City that designs and manufactures equipment for nuclear power and medical applications, has jointly developed a foldable PCR testing booth in response to the spread of COVID-19. The product was developed together with Izumi, a Hitachi-based company engaged in the sale and installation of aluminum building materials, and a housing manufacturer. By using the testing booth at hospitals and other facilities, medical institutions can greatly reduce the need for protective clothing, goggles, and gloves. The booth can also be folded and stored when not in use, improving convenience.
The PCR Testing Booth is designed so that medical workers can enter the booth and collect specimens while helping prevent droplet and contact infection during testing. Because protective clothing and gloves are not required, the booth also helps shorten testing time. To support both drive-through and walk-through testing, it can be installed indoors or outdoors and comes with wind-resistant ropes, fixing brackets, and other accessories. The walls are made of resin material designed to withstand wind and rain.
The booth is simple to assemble and can be set up by two adults in less than five minutes. If a glove is damaged, it can be replaced from inside the booth in less than two minutes. When not in use, the booth folds down to a thickness of 15 centimeters and can be stacked for storage.
Takahashi Industry applied its manufacturing technology for airtight products used in nuclear power and medical fields. Airtightness is maintained by fitting rings into the glove sections from the inside. During development, President Sakurai of Izumi introduced the company to a housing manufacturer, leading to the joint development project. Takahashi Industry handled the basic design and airtight components, while the housing manufacturer handled the other parts.
President Noboru Takahashi said, “We began considering this product around April last year because we wanted to help medical workplaces. As manufacturers, we cannot stand on the front lines of medical care, but we hope this testing booth can help protect medical workers and reduce the burden on healthcare settings, even if only a little.”
